Hello I am Mr Mubiin Bussaruth. I am an educator at Hamilton College. I teach Commercial Studies and Business Studies. My students come from extremely diverse backgrounds. I am in the teaching profession for more than three years and I love teaching and I am always ready for new challenges. It's my first blog and web site. Welcome and feel free to comment. Introductory note on the Programme

This new programme introduced by the MIE is very efficient as it unable the trainee to become more autonomous, responsible and lifelong learners through effective use of ICT in online pedagogy. This approach will further aim at applying technology in transforming what goes on and around in the classroom.

Learning through Distance

Studying online through distance learning is an excellent way to bring study direct to your home. There are a variety of ways for students to study through distance learning. The main feature of this is that in general you are not required to be physically present in the classroom, and this will give you the freedom to study wherever and whenever you want.

At the end of the module the trainee should be able to:

Apply on-line pedagogical principles in creating online materials.
Develop independent learning skills through technology.
Display ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Analyse critically fundamental emerging issues in Open and Distance Learning.

Students’ expectation for Online Intervention

The on-line learning is very challenging. You will have to prove yourself by amending to some rules which are:

1st: Time management – you will have to time yourself and work according to it. You should not waste your working time in doing something else.

2nd: Planning Study – have a plan of work. What you should do today, how you will proceed and so on.

3rd: Handling work – you should be able to handle your work and responsibilities well. You should not get distracted by other things.

4th: Stress management – you should not get tensed as the work will not be a good one. For this you should have a good plan of work. You should start your work as soon as you are given one and always finish it one or two days before the submission date.

Evaluation Mode

Continuous assessment.

Welcome to the New World

In 1922 Thomas Edison predicted that "the motion picture is destined to revolutionize our educational system and ... in a few years it will supplant largely, if not entirely, the use of textbooks." Twenty-three years later, in 1945, William, the director of the Cleveland public schools' radio station, claimed that "the time may come when a portable radio receiver will be as common in the classroom as is the blackboard." Forty years after that the noted psychologist B. F. Skinner, referring to the first days of his "teaching machines," in the late 1950s and early 1960s, wrote, "I was soon saying that, with the help of teaching machines and programmed instruction, students could learn twice as much in the same time and with the same effort as in a standard classroom." Ten years after Skinner's recollections were published, President Bill Clinton campaigned for "a bridge to the twenty-first century ... where computers are as much a part of the classroom as blackboards." Clinton was not alone in his enthusiasm for a program estimated to cost somewhere between $40 billion and $100 billion over the next five years. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, talking about computers to the Republican National Committee early this year [1997], said, "We could do so much to make education available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, that people could literally have a whole different attitude toward learning."

This blog is destined to you fellow students of Business Studies. It is designed to facilitate your studies in a modern way and help you integrate the fast moving world. So, I’ll start by explaining you some of the key words that you’ll come across. Moreover, after reading this article you’ll be able to learn differently and efficiently and I’m sure you’ll find this new method very exciting and very challenging and you’ll learn better and more and more.

What is e-learning?

E-learning is learning which takes place as a result of experiences and interaction in an Internet environment. It is not restricted to a regular school day and can take place in a variety of locations including home, school and community locations e.g. libraries, cafes etc.

Who are e-teachers, and what do they do?

E-teachers are the new generation of teachers who will work in an Internet environment in both regular and virtual classroom situations. They will build new concepts of working in time and space. E-teachers collaborate, build and discover new learning communities and explore resources as they interact with information, materials and ideas with their students and colleagues.

What is e-education?

E-education involves e-teaching and e-learning along with the various administrative and strategic measures needed to support teaching and learning in an Internet environment. It will incorporate a local, regional, national and international view of education.

Aims of e-learning:

To center learning around the student instead of the classroom

To focus on the strengths and needs of individual learners

To make lifelong learning a practical reality

How to use the ‘Production & Quality’ Blog?

The blog is very easy and user friendly. The chapter ‘Production & Quality’ will be explained to you using videos, charts, texts, pictures and diagrams. The chapter was covered in 4 weeks. The sub chapters are four in number. The notes are well written and are in a summary form. The blog was designed to facilitate the teacher-students interaction.

e-teaching

The methods used:

- Blog (the students are able to check the notes and explanation on ‘Production & Quality’; videos, charts, texts and pictures make the learning easier. They are also able to comment on the different notes and videos).

- E-mails are sent to students which contain the tasks they have to do; they also contain brief explanation on certain things the students are having problems.

- Facebook is used to facilitate the chat session; teacher-students live interaction.
